Anne-Marie has been directing musicals in and around Surrey
for the past twelve years, preferring to lend her expertise
to the weird, the wonderful or the just damn difficult shows
available to amateurs. Not for her the safe seats of Oklahoma
or The Sound of Music – this girl likes her shows to
be really complicated!
Starting out as an actress, Anne-Marie was soon commandeered
by her local drama group to ‘find something for the
children to do between pantos’, and ended up with two
successful junior productions of Dracula Spectacular and Dazzle
with no less than 50 children in each…and all on a village
hall stage. Moving on to adults, a sell-out production of
Little Shop of Horrors was closely followed by The Best Little
Whorehouse in Texas…and she was off!
Recent favourite directing jobs in and around Surrey include
Sondheim’s Follies, Tim Rice’s Blondel, How to
Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Return to the
Forbidden Planet, topping it all off with her last award-winning
production, the amateur premiere of Saucy Jack & The Space
Vixens.
Now she feels ready to direct the complex but fun musical,
Into the Woods – one of her all-time favourite shows.
And she is looking forward to sharing the responsibility for
the first time with her good friend, Rosie Hatton.
And for a bit of non-theatrical background…in her spare
time Anne-Marie likes to get involved in life; she is a showjumping
ring steward, an avid reader, does a huge amount of cross-stitch,
is a website moderator, an enthusiastic supporter of the Countryside
Alliance, loves decorating wedding cakes, is currently taking
a course in journalism, spends far too much money on Pony
Club ponies for her adored nieces and nephews, and even tries
to squeeze in a full-time job working for a pharmaceutical
company. If there’s any time left after all that –
it’s spent eating chocolate!
