Cast and Crew

Kris Benjafield, Wardrobe

Having retired this year from being a paid employee, Kris has more time to spend as an overworked, underpaid wardrobe mistress for Ghosts and Guildford Opera Company.

She has been involved with costumes for well over 60 shows, ranging from Grand Opera at the defunct Guildford Civic Hall (not my fault they closed it) to pantomines and musicals at the Electric Theatre. Cast numbers have ranged from under 10 to over 70 per production.

Kris also looks after and tries to keep in good condition and order all the costumes for both companies in various garages and lofts and is constantly squeezing in more and more costumes as she can't say no (to donations of more costume bits and pieces) as you never know when it will come in useful!

Being an organised person, is good at putting things in safe places and being over a certain age, forgets where they are (temporarily). The first to admit she is not an expert dressmaker, she is more than happy to delegate this responsibility to any seamstresses she meets but prefers to revamp/titivate existing costumes - call it recyling!

The costume budget is always tight and no challenge has yet been unfulfilled. She tries not to hire costumes in, only hire them out (at reasonable rates) to produce much needed income for both companies.

Having worked with Anne-Marie on several shows, Kris is looking forward to Into the Woods and fairy tale characters and will again be visiting any charity shop she passes, in case there is a costume bargain to be had.

Any spare time is spent looking after partner David, miniscule garden full of pots, spending time with daughter, son and three grandsons, doing crosswords, any holiday she can fit in between shows but definitely not doing housework if it can possibly be avoided!
