Maria
fell into musical theatre through the fortuitous combination
of her two longstanding passions, music and experimental theatre.
Her first love was music, taking up the recorder at a very
young age before transferring allegiances to the trombone,
which has taken her on tour across Europe and to Japan, not
to mention the Royal Festival Hall. Her singing started in
various chamber choirs, progressing to Grade 8 distinction
as a Soprano.
Maria has performed with theatre groups and independent production
companies in a variety of traditional and non-traditional
venues across the South East and Midlands. Experience includes
street and physical theatre, experimental theatre, improvisation
and devised productions. She has also stage-managed, designed
costumes and set, and co-directed. Somehow she never manages
to find herself far from a stage, whether it is walking the
boards, behind the scenes or in the orchestra pit!
Credits include: Charlotte Corday (“Marat/Sade”),
Joanna (“Sweeney Todd”), Mary Magdalene (“Jesus
Christ Superstar”), Rizzo (Grease), Tibalt (“Romeo
and Juliet”), Antonio (“The Tempest”), Mulberry
(“The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui”), Peep Bo
(“The Mikado”), Bunny (“Saucy Jack &
the Space Vixens”), creating the role of Lucy in “Silver’s
Ghost”, and everything from a Bond girl to a gangster,
a lawyer angel to the embodiment of a deadly sin in an Edgar
Allan Poe adaptation.
