Martin started in the theatre over 30 years ago at the tender
age of 7 as a female villager in the Peterborough Gang Show!
After ten years on stage he moved over to the ‘dark
side’ where he has stayed ever since. Although involved
with all technical aspects of theatre, lighting is his chosen
speciality – both as a hobby and now as a professional
freelance lighting technician/designer.
After moving to Surrey 12 years ago, Martin lit mainly plays,
moving back into musicals when joining Ghosts in 2000. His
recent successes have been lighting the award-winning World
Premiere of “Lola”, winning the NODA technical
excellence award for Tim Rice’s “Blondel”,
best lighting award at Woking Drama Festival for “Forward
to the Right”, and his technical direction of the amateur
premiere of “Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens”
at Guildford’s Electric Theatre. He has, of course,
kept his hand in with lighting some plays in between musicals!
The lighting design for “Into the Woods” is a
closely-guarded secret, but due to Martin’s experience
with everything from moving lights to chroma deck, and the
fact he will be using the top-of-the-range wysiwyg lighting
design programme and a bank of computers it seems set to look
extraordinary.
